I was scared to death to go to India seeing all the news of the rapes and hearing about the trouble women have in India.

I also know that the news is often sensationalized as we have horrible stories about gang rapes in America that doesn’t hit the

national news. So I took a leap of faith and went to India to buy wood. To my knowledge there are only two women in the world

in this field. One is Linda who is the biggest buyer of wood I know for the Martin guitar factory. Then there is me. , the littlest buyer

of wood in the guitar business. Due to a problem in Granada and my lack of work, I took on the problem of solving the wood

problem for the Granada guitar makers. In Granada the guitars are all handmade. There are no factories here. The wood dealers’

main interest is selling to the factories to make a lot of money. The quantity of wood necessary for Granada is too small for a big

dealer to be interested in; there lies the problem. I went to India and was treated like a queen but being a woman became a problem

even the Indian bosses had not foreseen. I needed the highest quality wood. The workers had sold thousands of sets to America

and here a woman was only buying a few sets and asking for quality they had never had to provide for the American dealer. They

did not want to accommodate me saying we are experienced. With much fighting, I almost got what I wanted. The owners were very

embarrasses of course and told me to return with a guitar maker to resolve the problem. As I was leaving another man came in and

I saw him picking out the wood I was trying to get. That means they had the wood but the worker didn’t want to find it for me as that

was not what he had sold to America in the past. I will return with a male guitar maker. At least I finally found what we are looking for!
